Comparison of restriction enzymes for pulsed-field gel electrophoresis typing of Moraxella catarrhalis.

NotI, the most prevalent restriction enzyme used for typing Moraxella catarrhalis, failed to digest genomic DNA from respiratory samples. An improved pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) methodology determined SpeI as the best choice for typing this bacterial species, with a good restriction of clinical samples and a good clustering correlation with NotI.

Molecular aspects of Moraxella catarrhalis pathogenesis.

In recent years, Moraxella catarrhalis has established its position as an important human mucosal pathogen, no longer being regarded as just a commensal bacterium. Further, current research in the field has led to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in M. catarrhalis pathogenesis, including mechanisms associated with cellular adherence, target cell invasion, modulation o...

Moraxella Catarrhalis peritonitis

BACKGROUND Peritonitis continues to be a major complication of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients. Recent advances in connectology and better patient training have decreased the incidence of peritonitis in the last two decades. Peritonitis in PD patients is usually due to gram positive and less often due to gram negative organisms. Herein we report a case of peritonitis due to Moraxell...
